For the adventurous hunters and fishermen, take
advantage of the open access and roam freely through the immense
forests of the North Shore. Most of this diverse territory, bordered
by the Saguenay, the St. Lawrence River and Labrador, was formerly
owned by the Hudson Bay Company and now belongs to the State. In
season, your valid permit and entry fee for access to certain sectors
are sufficient to explore this hunting and fishing paradise.
For an assured catch, hunters and fishermen can
choose a comfortable, prosperous stay with an outfitter. You can
take your pick from more than 90 outfitters for all tastes, pocketbooks
and desired prey. Some outfitters will roll out the red carpet:
gastronomic menu, comfortable and luxurious accommodations, spa
and activities, in short, all the amenities of a large hotel lost
in the middle of nowhere! Other, more primitive establishments are
suitable for nature-lovers who want to commune more closely with
nature. The favourite dish of our fishermen: brook trout (speckled
trout) or Atlantic salmon.

Among the “private preserves” with
the best game resources is evidently Anticosti Island, renowned
jewel of the gulf, with herds of white-tailed deer, the envy of
many hunters on a quest for a trophy… practically guaranteed!
For experienced hunters looking for a thrilling adventure and a
legendary trek, hunt the black bear and moose in the Manicouagan
region or track the caribou near Fermont, in the Duplessis region,
also renowned for its black bears.

As well, hunting and fishing in a controlled harvesting
zone (ZEC) or a wildlife preserve of the North Shore constitutes
a reasonable compromise between staying with an outfitter and the
logistics of a wilderness expedition. A modest and appealing solution
that is sure to please the improvised hunting or fishing party,
with family or friends. One day of fishing, boat and equipment rentals,
amenities, shuttle service, etc.
