5 DAYS RAFTING ON THE MUTESHEKAU SHIPU - MAGPIE RIVER

5 DAYS RAFTING ON THE MUTESHEKAU SHIPU - MAGPIE RIVER

On this trip, we will be paddling through the heart of the Innu Nitassinan, on a world-renowned white-water river, where the only humans we will probably come across will be the ones in our group. A trip focused on safety and the pleasure of white-water rafting, as well as the discovery of the wilderness landscapes surrounding the river.

Beginner Level Sports Adventure - no experience required

No white-water experience is required to live this extraordinary emotionally charged adventure. You must, however, be comfortable on and in the water and be able to walk on riverside rocks and in the forest. During the descent, we will often stop to scout the rapids for the best line choice. It will sometimes be necessary to portage equipment, line rapids and walk on slippery banks.

The Magpie Experience

The adventure begins with a hydroplane transport which, after about 45 minutes of flight, will drop the group on Lake Magpie in the middle of the Boreal Forest far from civilization. We will then have 5 days to discover this wild territory, alternating between the rapids and the calmer waters of the river. There will be time for swimming, fishing, and wonderful evenings under the stars enjoying delicious meals prepared with fresh local ingredients. This rafting adventure is designed to be accessible to less seasoned white-water paddlers.

Day 1: Havre-Saint-Pierre to Lake Magpie by bush airplane

Participants will meet at the airplane's departure lake just east of Havre-Saint-Pierre. All will be asked to arrive early to help with the final preparations to reach Lake Magpie in a legendary Otter or Beaver plane. Once the plane has left the group at its destination, the silence and immensity of the wilderness will most definitely make people feel that they are all alone in the world discovering a new territory. We will then need to assemble the boats to start the adventure. A few instructions will follow with an introduction to rafting, all with the immense Lake Magpie as a backdrop. It's a great time to create new bonds with other members of the team that will be spending the next 5 days paddling together.

From day 2 to day 5:  After hearty breakfasts we discover the river: sometimes calm, sometimes energetic; surrounded by mountains and wild forest. The evenings are an opportunity to take the time to swim, fish or simply admire the nature of the majestic Muteshekau Shipu. The days end under the stars, enjoying tasty meals with local flavors around the campfire.

Testimonials

“A memorable trip! Your passion for the Magpie allowed us to discover this majestic region of our country. Your joy of living, your dedication made this trip full of magical moments. I will always remember a little wave that made us laugh, that brought intense moments of happiness!”

• Lyne B. (participant)

“The Magpie River flows through the heart of Minganie, and mine too. By paddling it dozens of days a year for more than twenty years, I have come to know and love it in all its intricacies. With my companions, I cleared camps there, restored centuries-old portages, slept under its stars, ate its trout and drank its water. Since my first full descent in 1997, Muteshekau Shipu has made me grow and become a man. Summer and winter alike, the Magpie Valley brings me calm and rejuvenation: it's my home. A unique place, calm and at the same time bubbling with energy, which I love to share. It's the trip of a lifetime. With great pleasure, I invite you to my home to discover this natural gem. »
