Croisières AML: An unforgettable VIP experience for family whale watching

By Étienne Lalancette, Digital Marketing Strategist at Tourisme Côte-Nord

Located in the heart of the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park, Tadoussac Bay is recognized worldwide as one of the best places to watch whales. But if admiring these marine giants is already a privilege, the VIP package of Croisières AML aboard the AML Grand Fleuve transforms this sea trip into a high-end, intimate and unforgettable experience.

A warm welcome and a luxurious atmosphere

As soon as we arrive on board, the tone is set: a captain welcomes us personally with mimosas in hand, in the comfort of the Saint-Laurent VIP Lounge, a private glass-enclosed lounge offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the river. Our coats and bags are taken care of, we are immediately invited to settle in, and a varied consumption service for adults and children is offered.

The children are also pampered: coloured pencils and sketchbooks are given to them, which allows them to wait calmly between two observations, while staying warm in a hushed atmosphere. Despite a grey and cool weather of 15 °C, we were comfortably installed, dry, in this exclusive glass lounge that only accommodates about twenty people at a time. With binoculars, they scan the St. Lawrence in search of this Pssshh*.

Not to mention the human encounters that naturally emerge in this hushed space, the Saint-Laurent VIP Lounge encourages exchanges between visitors from all over the world. In the intimacy of a small group, gathered around an aperitif or a carefully prepared cocktail, conversations begin slowly, carried by the beauty of the landscape and the magic of the moment. French, German, Innu, British and Quebecers mix. Between two whale sightings, we share our wonders, our travel stories and sometimes even laughter, creating memories as rich as the landscapes that pass before us.

A humane approach that respects nature

One of the most striking aspects of this cruise is AML's commitment to the environment. The captain explains that the crew does not use any sonar to detect whales, in order to avoid any acoustic disturbance in their natural habitat. It is their eyes and experience, as well as the constant communication with the captains of AML zodiacs present in the marine park, that make it possible to locate the whales responsibly. Visitors are also involved as they scan the horizon for whales.

During our activity, we had the incredible chance to see a blue whale, a rare species of which there are only about 350 individuals left. We also observed a school of porpoises, curious seals and several seabirds, including razorbills, which added to the magic of the moment. If you want to deepen your knowledge of marine mammals, a mandatory detour to  the MMIC - Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre is worth the detour!

Regional flavours and exceptional service

Around noon, meal trays made up of appetizers from Quebec are distributed. Cold cuts, fine cheeses, regional products and snacks adapted to small appetites: everything is carefully thought out. The service on board is impeccable, attentive without being intrusive. Special mention to Justine, whose kindness and professionalism deserve a perfect mark. A truly 10/10 experience.

A memorable moment for the whole family

I had the pleasure of experiencing this cruise with my wife and our two young children, ages 3 and 7. Thanks to the comfort of the VIP Lounge, this outing has become a real relaxing experience, even with small children. The attentive staff, the unlimited refreshments, the clear and exciting explanations of the naturalist guide - everything was perfectly orchestrated so that everyone, young and old, enjoyed it to the fullest. If you consume a lot of drinks, you are welcome to leave a tip for the team that takes care of you during this short trip.

An exceptional view

In addition to enjoying the comfort of the lounge and a 180-degree panoramic view of the front of the ship, access to the VIP Lounge also opens the doors of the upper gangway with seating chairs, an exclusive space offering a breathtaking view, from above, of the St. Lawrence River and its majestic marine mammals. It almost feels like the crow's nest of an old galleon, overlooking the waters in search of whales. It is important to note that this gateway is not accessible with a regular ticket — only VIP Lounge or Upper Gateway holders can board.

A top-of-the-range, committed and accessible cruise

This VIP package is much more than a luxury. It is an elegant and comfortable way to experience a privileged encounter with Quebec's marine wildlife.

Between refinement, environmental awareness, and pure wonder, Croisières AML offers an unforgettable experience, whether as a couple, with friends or family. An activity to be experienced absolutely... and to be relived again.
