The Saguenay-Saint Lawrence Marine Park is a protected marine area located in Quebec, Canada. It was established in 1998 with the aim of preserving the exceptional biodiversity of the Saint Lawrence Estuary and the Saguenay Fjord.
The marine park covers an area of nearly 1,245 square kilometers, making it one of the largest protected marine areas in the world. It encompasses a part of the Saint Lawrence Estuary, where the freshwater of the river mixes with the saltwater of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a section of the Saguenay Fjord, which is one of the longest fjords in the world.
These waters are ecologically rich, harboring a wide variety of marine species, including whales, seals, dolphins, fish, and seabirds. The marine park is known for being an exceptional location for observing marine mammals, particularly humpback whales, fin whales, belugas, and seals.
Visitors to the marine park can enjoy activities such as whale watching by boat, sea kayaking, scuba diving, hiking along coastal trails, and much more. There are also interpretation centers where visitors can learn more about the marine ecosystem of the region.
Preserving and conserving this unique ecosystem are priorities of the Saguenay-Saint Lawrence Marine Park. Strict regulations are in place to protect marine species and their habitat, and visitors are encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly practices during their visit.
The Saguenay-Saint Lawrence Marine Park is a beautiful place where one can discover the beauty of nature and the richness of marine life in the Saint Lawrence Estuary and the Saguenay Fjord.
