Description

Take the Bersimis River Road from Route 138 to the end of the road and its 90-degree bend. To your left is the parking lot for the Halte, which gives you access to the magnificent Bersimis River, with the Banc-des-Blancs at its mouth, site of the former village of St-Élysée de Bersimis, and on the other side of the river, the Innu community of Pessamit, whose members have exclusive fishing rights on the river. From the Halte, you can canoe or kayak on the river, as well as walk on the beach at low tide. Before the construction of the current Route 138 and its bridge spanning the river, the Halte site served as the landing point for an ice bridge allowing people to cross the river in winter. In summer, a ferry docked near the current intersection of Chemin de la Rivière Bersimis and Route 138, with a hotel nearby for travelers waiting for the next crossing. Enjoy a stroll through nature and back in time!
