Description
Corossol Island is named after a French ship that ran aground there in 1693. The silhouette of its lighthouse built in 1870 makes it highly recognizable; modernized over the years, it was completely automated in 1988.
It is a protected seabird sanctuary, one of the most significant in Eastern Canada in terms of the diversity of the species that nest there. For this reason, Corossol is not accessible to visitors. Boats passing nearby must respect a protective zone of 500 m around the island.
